We’re on the hunt for a brilliant all-rounder who’s looking for a fun, challenging, and wide-reaching role with almost unlimited potential for growth and impact.
🌲 About Spruce
- Almost 20% of the UK’s carbon emissions comes from heating homes – there’s simply no way to make meaningful progress towards net zero without accelerating the phase out of gas and oil boilers. And right now the only serious alternative is heat pumps, with their almost-magical ability to turn 1 kW of electricity into 3-5 kW of heat (🤯)
- But there’s a problem: the heat pump installation journey is slow, inefficient, and just so painful for installers. This makes it really hard for existing heating engineers to grow their businesses and puts off potential installers from moving across to heat pumps. Perhaps most critically, it means you can’t currently sell a heat pump when someone’s boiler breaks and they urgently need heating.
- We’re fixing this. We’ve built an operating system for heat pump installers to manage the whole installation journey from initial enquiry through to final compliance paperwork, freeing up their time to focus on what really matters: doing high-quality installations, providing great customer service, and scaling their business.
- Despite only being 12 months in we’re having a massive impact on over 250 installation businesses across the UK, halving the time they spend on each installation and helping them win more jobs in the process.
- It’s a wild ride so far but there’s so much more to do – over the course of the next 12 months we’ll be massively improving the existing product, starting to work with other companies in the heat pump supply chain, and expanding into solar and batteries.
- We’re currently a close-knit team of 8, split evenly between London and Bristol. We try to spend a few days each week working together in-person in both locations, and get everyone altogether every fortnight.
🥖 The Role
You’ll be working closely with Steph, Spruce’s Co-Founder and resident heat pump guru, getting stuck into pretty much everything that goes on across the business, and making a serious and measurable dent on the UK’s carbon emissions. No two days will be the same, but your work will include:
- Data, analysis & reporting – digging into how our customers are using the platform, presenting insights to the rest of the team, managing all of the technical product data we’re continually adding, and helping develop the modelling that underpins the platform.
- Product - doing the research to help us decide what we should build next, figuring out how we should build it, and then working super closely with the dev team to get it done.
- Customer success – onboarding new installers, helping them when they get stuck or when something isn’t working in the way they’d expect, and building out training videos and tutorials so it’s easier for them to find answers for themselves.
- Writing content – writing product updates, managing our newsletter, writing onboarding guides for new customers, compiling installer FAQs, and helping with grant applications.
🫵 About You
You’ll have somewhere between 1 and 4 years work experience and you’ll ideally be:
- Relentlessly proactive – you get shit done, naturally take responsibility and are always pushing to make things better;
- A data nerd — you have a real affinity for numbers, love drawing meaning data, and approach problems in a clear and structured way. You are a boss at excel and have probably played with some SQL/Python
- Technical AF - you are happy digging into detailed equations to figure out how we make hard calculations easy for installers. If you don’t already know how to calculate heat loss from a building, you’re stoked to find out;
- A natural “people person” — you love working with people and find it easy to warm to them;
- A clear and concise communicator — you take pride in the quality of your written communication and have a keen eye for detail;
…and you’ll hopefully also love heat pumps! 🤓
